Carl returns to Japan after 3 months touring in the US, Europe and the UK. His first performance in 2025 will be a first time collaboration with Ayami Suzuki, the Tokyo-based musician, artist and improviser whose practice revolves around creating ambient soundscapes that incorporate her folk influences in a synthesis of songwriting and improvisation. This will also be Carl’s first time performance in the up and coming Tokyo venue, Hako Gallery. Come by and have a listen!

Carl is freshly back in his Tokyo hometown after 3 months touring – happy to be returning to Koenji KNOCK, with a performance as REALISTIC MONK together with his ambient music partner Miki Yui, sound artist living in Düsseldorf. For the second half of the evening REALISTIC MONK will be joined by the wonderful koto player Kohsetsu Imanishi for a first time collaboration. January 12 San Francisco Victoria Theater San Francisco Tape Music Festival

While Carl is performing live in Tokyo, his music will be presented as part of the great San Francisco Tape Music Festival 2025. which is America’s only annual festival devoted to the performance of audio works projected in three-dimensional space, This year will feature four distinct concerts of classic audio art and new “fixed media” compositions by 42 local and international composers. over a pristine surround system (24 high-end loudspeakers) with the audience seated in complete darkness. It’s a unique opportunity to experience music forming, literally, around you.
The entire festival runs from January 10-12 and is worth checking out. Carl’s music will be featured on the closing concert on January 12.
